दूसरे विश्व युद्ध से पहले सेना पर खर्च के आंकड़े अप्रत्याशित ढंग से बढ़ गए थे। 1939 में जर्मनी ने 122.2 अरब डॉलर यानी लगभग 8554 अरब रुपये सेना और हथियारों पर खर्च कर दिए। बता दें कि इन युद्धों में होने वाला नुकसान इस खर्च में शामिल नहीं है। इस समय भी दूसरे नंबर पर यूके था। हालांकि तीसरे नंबर पर 61 अरब डॉलर के साथ रूस आ गया था। अमेरिका अब भी छठे नंबर पर ही रहा। इसने 10.4 अरब डॉलर खर्च किया।
